Cakewalk newbie question

I finally got around to using Cakewalk Home Studio 8 (which I purchased several years ago), and I'm getting a problem. I'm able to use the included plug-ins by processing the track through the Edit menu, but when I try to patch an effect into the Aux send I get the following error:

"DirectShow Error [0X8004022A]

This filter does not support the current audio format. It may require a different number of channels (e.g., stereo instead of mono) or a different sample rate."

Does anyone have a clue what's causing this and how to remedy it?

do you have the latest version of direct X from microsoft?

also try converting your audio file to a common type to make sure that the prgram can process it (like 16 bit and 44.1 khz sampling rate). I don't know where this function is in home studio 8 but look under edit>convert audio or process>convert audio
 
I just downloaded the latest version of Direct X, so I'll try to install that and see if it helps.

Regarding the soundcard, to be honest, I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure it's a Creative Soundblaster or something very similar. I got it from my friend three or four years ago, so it's nothing state of the art. It's only got one stereo 1/8" input.

hmmm .. well ... any other suggestions?

I installed the new version of Direct X and still no luck. The sampling rate is set to 44.1, and the bit rate is 16 (though it won't let me change this ... it's darkened and won't let me select it).

I found out that the soundcard I have is a Crystal Sound Fusion.

Anything else y'all can think of?

Your problem with the EFX should be.... EFX plug-ins come in stero or mono... the one yor are using may only work stero or mono, not both....try the efx directly on the individual track ( such as track one or 2 or 3 ). It may just not be able to work in the stero mode.....

FYI....The regular track in any cakewalk version can use a mono plug-in...Any Manin mix section needs a stero.....hope this helps

Hmmm... maybe that soundcard is your problem... :cool:
