Cakewalk is not dead, and since you've posted this in the Cakewalk Forums, it should'nt be difficult to tell who's gonna win...
 
You've also mixed up software (Cubase, for example) with software companies (Sonic Foundry, Cakewalk).
 
Cakewalk, Cool Edit Pro and Sound Forge have been an absolute mate for long time in my DAW... Cubase definitelly great due to VST. What can I say... nobody's will be dead here. Do not open fire. :D
 
Thanx guys - polls may be of limited value but I hope to see some direction as I have posted this on other software user forums
 
Tonemaster, not to bust your chops my friend but cross posting is a MAJOR pain in the ass here and just wastes bandwidth.
