I have been using Home Studio 9 for sometime now and when I record vocals or guitar and add the FX such as studio reverb or any other effect when I save the file close and then open the file again I need to reset all the effects I have added prior to the last save. This cannot be right. Does anybody know how to keep the preset effects? Thanks in advance.

you mean the settings change or do the effects disappear from the insert?
when you're adding the effects, check the tabs behind the settings tab, like processing options etc, maybe there's some configuration you need to do.
also, were you able to record the effects before? i'm not familiar with home studio, i'm using cw 9, but it should be working alright.

I'm not familiar with Home Studio, but I'm sure it works like the other Cakewalk products.

The effects and their settings should be getting saved with your project. HOWEVER, the name doesn't seem to get saved. So when you open the effect the next time, all the parameters will be as you last left them, but the name of the preset in the dropdown box will be blank.

Is this what you're talking about? If so, I agree with you that CW should fix it. Quite frequently I will use a preset, and then I'll later want to know which preset I used. No way to tell except to try and match up all the parameters.

As a workaround to this problem I will save whatever effect's settings as a preset with the name of the project and the track name. Then when I call the project up I can find the preset without much thinking. I didn't realize that just the name dissapeared and I've been resetting each effect every time.

Also, when naming presets, if there is one I use alot as a "template" or starting place, I'll name it beginning with the numeral "0" so it's always near the top of the preset list.

Also when calling for Ricolah, I will, for the most part, sing from the diaphragm. Just in case you wanted to know.

Actually the preset FX like "reverb/chorus" will be displayed when I open the project up again but the effect may actually be"reverb/cave" or "chorus/vocal" although this is not displayed in the window. I will save these to the project, close then re-open the project and it will have a mind of it's own and choose an effect regardless of what the preset FX reads in the window. I've gotten used to going in and re-setting the FX everytime but it can be tedius when using 8 audio tracks simultaneously.

cakewalk support

try emailing support@cakewalk.com, but don't hold your breath, keep trying to find a solution.
i emailed them on monday, and i'm still waiting for an answer. they say they'll reply within 1-2 business days. i guess they're on vacation.;)
the worst is if they're notj developing a sequel to that software, they'll never bother to fix that bug.
