I actually bought these stupid things. The Tape sim I dont need. Has anyone ever used the amp sim and got a decent sound? To me, they are absolutely dreadful. I want a hard rock guitar (Violin) sound, but it really sucks. Does anyone know of any settings that will work?

Also, I have Revalver with SONAR, but I cannot use it. If I try, I get the "Out of memory" pop-up. I have a Celeron 566, and Cakewalk told me it is not fast enough, but I wonder: can I do something with virtual memory to use this?

Even if I get Revalver working, am I correct that something like a Pod or Jstation would kick its ass? My studio ( AKA my living room) is so cramped that I would rather have software, but I doubt my 566 Celery can handle any more. Hold me:(

Dave my man...

Whazz up...?
I think the same way about the Amp Sim. It's not that good. And I've purchased the ReValver for Guitar sake. So far, I've never found good enough plugin which beats hardware... I'll stick with floor unit FX... It's pretty wierd about the "Out of memory" thingee. I've tested in my other PC (P233MMX, onboard Soundcard, 64MB RAM shared with onboard VGA 4MB) and didn't get the popups... Okay, it's bad... but it worked.. I guess it's about the time to upgrade the Celery...

I have a solution for the 'Out of memory' error:

1) Using Windows Explorer, locate your Windows\System folder.

2) Locate the file REGSVR32.EXE, and leave that window open.

3) Choose Start | Find | Files or Folders.

4) Next to Names enter *.ax or *.dll (I'm assuming Revalver uses dlls)

5) Change Look in to My Computer and hit the Find Now button.

6) Once it finds them, drag the files (or more specifically, the Revalver *.dlls) on top of the regsrv32.exe file and drop them. This should properly register the DX effects so that you can use them.

And indeed: the amp and tape sim SUCK! Feel sorry for you, DavidK!

The amp sim is not that good for guitars, unless you stumble upon something unusual you happened to want. I use revalver about 40% of the time, and a Pod the other 60 for guitars.

However, I have used the amp sim to make distorted vocals... works great for that!

If my trick fails...search for every registry key involving the word Revalver and delete it. Drink some coffee. Kiss/hug your wife/girlfriend. Then reinstall Revalver...check the results. Whatever the results are: kiss/hug your wife/girlfriend again. :D

Don't do anything if you don't know what 'a registry key' is or if you're not acquainted with the registry. You could seriously damage your OS. So kiss/hug your wife/girlfriend instead.... LOL

I'm in a hippy mood today. I love you all!

Peace,

Tjrk

I have no intentions of doing anything with either revalver or my registry today. I do have a sudden urge to call my girlfriend, however.

LOL!!!

Hey Pedullist, do you mean it's worth to copy the .dll from ReValver installation folder to Windows / System32 folder ? WindowsXP or Windows 98SE ?

...huge & kiss while posting :p

No, that won't do anything (except for poluting your systems directory). The whole idea is that by dropping it onto the REGSVR32.EXE, it registers the dll or ax. When you install a DX plugin the normal way, it registers in the background using this executable. Sometimes it goes wrong, or the installation script is badly written and that's when you need to register it manually (all it does btw, is inserting a couple of registry keys). If you double click on REGSVR32.EXE, you'll get a popup with all command line parameters. See for yourself....

But remember: if everything works, don't try to 'fix' it ;)

So it's only for losers and tech nerds, or people who are both (like me :D )

What's up with all the hugging and kissing? Friggin' hippies! :D LOL

Well Cakewalks amp simulater sucks so bad they should pay you to use it.
Revalver sucks MAJOR resources and IMHO is difficult to dial up something good but not impossible.
If FX3 is soundstage I love that reverb and it's a blast playing with the room size and placement.

There are more distortion modeling Plugs available and more on the horizon but they still have a ways to go IMO.

If you're using an electric you can always go pick up a used stomp box for a few bucks that may do the trick.

AHA! This is the problem. This is not installed properly. No wonder I cannot use any DX instruments.

OK, I am a moron, help me out good people. How do I get DX working? I downloaded DirectX 9 last night, still not working.

No kidding, plus the worst thing I have ever purchased was PA9 XL, the xl was nothing more than stupid clips of guys with billiard balls in their mouth and awful rap beats. Was anyone else as stupid as I was and bought this horrible waste of money?

amp sim

actually, if you use the amp sim on an acoustic guitar you can get some pretty wicked sounding distortions....
the tools are there, might as well try to use them. you can never have enough gear. i still have amps, effects, guitars, etc..that are pushing ten years in my possesion...they may not get as much use as some of my newer gear, but they do get used.
plus if you feel the need to get a sucky sound, amp sims will work great for you then.

I also got PA 9 Deluxe, and SONAR 1 XL, but I got the regular non-XL SONAR 2...

I fiddled with the AMp SIm Lite that came with PA9, didn't like it at all, really, and never tried to tweak it or anything...

I fiddled with Revalver a bit the day I first installed it, wasn't knocked out, and never tried to tweak it or anything...

I think I was basically too lazy to struggle with those plugs, since I have a POD, which I was completely happy with from Day One...

Is that David, posting in the Cakewalk forum…I didn’t even realize it until I was halfway down the page. David, David, David…don’t waste any more money!!! I’ll PM you where to find effects for free, including all Cakewalk as well as things like Waves native gold Bundle which originally sold for hundreds.

how about giving me a pm on where to get that stuff too! he he..
