cakewalk and ac97

im sure this a no brainer but i got cakewalk home studio 2002 (never used it) on account of i get this message that says its incompatible with my sound driver, can i just change drivers cause i know a soundblaster will work ive got an intergrated sound mobo, im going to get a line6 guitar port instead of a highdoller sound card for now ill upgrade my sound card later, but im itchin to record with cakewalk too ( im currently using cooledit no serious problems) any help appreciated

Cakewalk is picky when it comes to soundcard you use. Usualy, it means "How come you buy hundred dollars software but invest only on cheapy onboard soundcard?". Not to be rude tough

Anyway, you can set the driver Cakewalk used in Options --> Audio. Find and select "Use MME driver..." or something. it should bring compability with your windows' soundcard. If it doesn't work, then you know what it means...

What's the date stamp on your AC97 driver? They updated it back in August 2003. Can't remember the website but an internet search on Avance soundcard should turn up something.

Seems to me I was able to use the AC97 mobo card for a while with Cakewalk 9. You may have to set Cakewalk up for 16-bit.

Eddie's correct. You will get this message if you have the program set up to use 24 bits, but only have a 16 bit sound card. I'm not familiar with HS, but the setting should be in Options > Audio or something similar.
