are these my only choices???

I better say CAD M177 because I have one I can ship to you for $100....

Tough call. I've got 'em both and they're close. Very close. I'd say I like the 3035 better--but only by a smidge. In fact I'd say it's close enough that I'd take whichever one I could get the best deal on--and be happy with it.

Don't have experience with the AT, but I've use my CAD M177's for vocals (not a general go-to though) and on acoustic guitars. With the right placement, I've been happy with them on acoustic. Also used them as overheads for drums before as I recall. No hype, no sibilence and pretty flat response.

I feel the M177 makes a good "general" mic.

I'm messing around with an MCA SP1 that I bought for about $53 (after shipping).

It seems to have a very tight cardiod pattern. Get up close and you're golden. And I find something oddly satisfying about buying a mic in a blister pack.

I wonder what folks experience is with this mic--and whether the preamp's phantom power affects this mics performance given teh schoeps derived circuit.
