Like many of you I imagine, I don't have a dedicated studio room. So, I have to put away my toys including coiling up the cables (XLR, TS, TRS, Insert, RCA, etc). I just been using the twisting ties (like you find in the supermarket) they shipped with but these are starting to fall apart at the twisting point. Are there aftermarket cable ties which can be used quickly and repeatedly? Velcro would seem ideal.

thanks

I've been using the Belkin cable ties sold at Walmart in their computer section. They do the job and they're a whole lot cheaper than the "instrument" cable ties. I believe they're about $3 per pack of 8.

I've been using re-usable multi-color cable ties. Just don't remember where they came from.
Leather boot laces work well too -tie them on, they stay with the cable.

I have a long nylon strap I bought several years ago that has Velcro loops sewn to it at 8" intervals. The strap hangs on the wall and all the cords are coiled and attached to it.

Get some Velcro cable ties...they don't wear out. I use Velcro all around my studio to keep things neat & keep non-rackable boxes from falling off shelves.

Glad trash bags used to come with the bag ties separately as a strip of long skinny yellow jagged plastic strips. These strips are very strong and highly useful for wrapping cords. I have some that are still in use after 20 years.

If you have a lot of cables, you can save money by buying a roll of sticky back Velcro, a bag of grommets, and a grommet punch. You stick two equal length pieces of Velcro together, and punch a hole in them for the grommet. You wrap this around the cable, near the male end (which is the end furthest from the mic) and grommet it together. It will last forever, and no one can steal your cable ties to use on pesky things like AC cables (though all my AC cables already have their own cable ties). The best part is, you can make them long enough for any cable, even that 50 foot 24 pair snake.

Home Depot, Lowes, or your local hardware store sells cable ties in the electrical department, in several different sizes.

There are both 1-time use (which have to be cut off), and REUSEABLE types, which have a small plastic tab that lets you relaese the tie.

Get the reuseable type. These things will probably last forever. My only complaint is, if you pull them TOO tight around a cord, it is a little difficult to depress the plastic 'release' tab and get your fingers under the tie to loosen it up from the cable. They work well for me.

Cheers.

I like the Planet Waves ties. Expensive but neat. Just like everything else they make. And they make me feel like a proper elitist bastard.
