What is the best way to store mic/instrument cables when they are not in use? coiled and hanging?

Coiled loosely but do not do the 'around the arm' coil. Coil the cables so they follow the natural bend in the cable and use velcro or string to tie them off.
For shorter patch cables there are racks that have a slot in them so you just hang them by the fitting on the end and can store like cables together on each slot.
