C4 example for overheads and dirty cab...

Dont tear it apart, the guitars are way too bright, and the overheads too, I think we went too extreme with the EQ and brickwall during "mastering"

The drum OH are C4's in the 2-stick technique, and the dirty cabs are a C4 in the ususal sm-57 position.

Just thought you might like to listen to it. I'm going to remaster it cause I feel like we killed it, and there transients are chopped off pretty bad. Its like a solid brick waveform almost.

Oh well, they love it anyway.

The guitars sound good to me.(Really good in fact)
But you are right about the rest being hashy and smashed.
That being said, still better then I hear in general as far as performance.

My opinion anyway.

I think overall its a good sound and a good mix, but like I said we went to ofar with some stuff.
I really do like the C4's, and they make good overheads and a good dirty guitar cab sound if you are looking for that modern Linkin Park sound on a Mesa head.
What did that last sentence mean by the way?

Nice pan work on the vocals. You know the part I'm talking about. Even if to smashed it's all still a good mix. Nothing is overpowering anything else. Vocals might be a tad high for the rest of the mix but thats about it.

I heard some sounds I really liked in there, I think the snare mostly. I have a narrow view of what I think good snare is. I wont comment too much tonight cause im using the harmonkardon speakers on my laptop, ill listen to it again on the monitors tomorrow.

What baffles me is being this close to each other why we've never hooked up to do something.:)

Really nice! But your drummer needs to cool it on the hats. If you can't get him to stop playing those hats so hard then at least point the overheads farther away from them and use a hypercardioid on the snare to minimize bleed; maybe just give him a different set of hats to use altogether. Man I hate those hats. I'm just being hard on you though, because everything else is very, very cool

H2H- come on down sometimes. I have sessions this weekend if you wanna partake. Its a screamer band though.
That snare had a 441 on it.
And as Noise said, put a hyper on it.... well, the 441 is pretty tight with great rejection. Its just when someone plays hats wide open, its like all you get in every mic. I keep meaning to put that on my website as some useful info (or a rule), to tell people that its a bad idea in the studio, to go for barely open when they are all the way open, ya know? I hate all the way wide open hats too.
Too late now, though these guys are coming in to do 5 more songs in a few weeks, and I will address it then for sure.
Is that worth $15 an hour though? Ha, I hope so.

Good job, but those cymbals are a bit over the top in more ways than one. They are far too loud and they have a bit too much high frequencies. The guitars are good sounding, but could do with a bit more meat if you know what i mean. They need some bottom end or maybe mid bottom end. How did u record them? with a condenser stick? I have been recording my band and the guitars sound pretty good but maybe not as good as your recording. bahhh!! I used a 57 and a 58 close prox miced. I might try a condenser for the highs and a 57 for the lows. mmmm sounds tempting.
