C3000 AKG vs. MXL V250

Have used an AKG 3000 for vocals since I got it 14 yrs ago. Seems to have gone mushy, or maybe my ears are getting better at hearing, but it seems to distort the bottom end at dynamic peaks.

I intend to get something better, A Musicians Friend catalog arrived today with this deal; MXL V250 price slashed from $199 To $50. MSRP$299. That seems like a very good deal.

Question: Can I expect the MXL to be tighter, more accurate than the AKG?

I record at home alone, covers and originals, mostly for my own pleasure, but I strive to seriously get the best possible vocal track.

It'd be good for a guitar amp mic. Vocals not good for close range, but great for belters and screamers, if you stand about two feet from the screen. Would be a good room ambience mic, sensitive enough to pick up low conversation over average room, and the lack of high end makes it good for a band-in-a-bedroom situation. It's also caught an accidental elbow several times in our studio, seems to be solid so far.
