I got a Studio Projects C1 and VTB1 about 2 weeks ago and i havent had any luck getting any kind of sound out of them. The C1 is my first condensor so im a little new to using it.

...So i come from the store plug everything in and, nothing.
If i turn up both the input gain and the output level to their highest settings i get a lot of noise and i can pick up loud sounds, but because of the volume of the noise any recording is useless.
Is it me or my mic? The pre-amp works just fine when used with dynamic mics so im pretty sure its not that.

Could the C1 be broken? Help me!

It could be your mic cable, try a different XLR to XLR mic cable, and don't forget to turn on the phantom power when using the C1.

the C1 isn't any good. You need a U87.

it's one of those days... sorry!

Damn, I love my C-1. Are you sure you have your phantom power on?

Anything is possible. Could be power supply on the VTB-1, or other issues. I suggest you call us toll free at 1-800-877-563-6335. Perhaps we can help you through it, find your problem and get you going.

Thanks for your replies.

"It could be your mic cable, try a different XLR to XLR mic cable, and don't forget to turn on the phantom power when using the C1."

It's a brand new cable and the phantom power is definately on and working (I can hear the noise only when i turn it on).

"Give us a call"

I would but I live in Ireland :(

Yes, you can e-mail our tech brent@pmiaudio.com or get it back to your dealer for an exchange. Our new UK office will start accepting repairs in a couple of months.

If you got it in Ireland, the distributor is Walton's Music. They will be happy to help as well.

It still could be your mic cable, try a different mic cable.

I use only monster cables in my signal path nowdays, you should get one.

Is this your first condensor mic?

Is your recording environment very quiet?

A condensor will pick up all kinds of noise that you may not have ever been able to hear before if you were using dynamics.

I'd take them to where I got them and have them test them out there. If they are bad, they should exchange them.

H2H

I'd go back and try the dynamic mic again and make sure everything else is working properly. Then, powere everything up with the condensers after turning on the phantom power (make sure it's 48v and not anything less).
