Ahh humma humma humma
Hey everyone...

I've been digging and digging through threads trying to find some clues as to which way to go...

I've got a small dilemma on my hands. I originally wanted to buy one of the new C1s (with the pad and rolloff), but can't find a vendor with the new ones in stock.

So... then I thought maybe the C3 would be a good choice (I'm VERY impatient). But then I read that the C3 doesn't have the same sound as the C1 due to the dual diaphram construction...

So... I need help with one of two things:

1) A source with the NEW C1s in stock

or

2) Thoughts and reviews on the sound and usage of the C3

Hope someone can help. I emailed Alan privately a couple of times but haven't heard anything yet. He's been great at getting back to me in the past, so I am assuming he isn't at his office lately.

Thanks for the help.

You may want to get the CD that compares the C1, C3, and T3. Alan sent me one, and so far, the T3 IMHO sounds the best. In particular, before getting the key, I found the T3 tracks to be my favorites. I might get around to posting a review with a detailed analysis, I might not...

Also, I hard Alan was going on vacation sometime around the end of December or so.

Velvet, Alan said he as on vacation until (around) January 8th.
I just got my listening CD and will listen to it tonight.
If I didn't already have so many mikes I would have gone for the C3
rather than the C1. Keep in mind a multi-pattern mike (B3) is coming
out in the forthcoming B series.

Lopp,

Did you find the C3 more to your liking than the C1? The T3 is more than I want to spend at this point.

Chessparov,

Yeah, I thought about the B series, but since I'm so impatient, I want to order someting this week :)

How do you both think the C3 compares to say an AT 4033?

Thanks,
Velvet Elvis

Tribal,

Thanks...

Sweetwater is backordered on both the C1 and C3 until mid to late month.

I haven't checked the other two.

Off the top of my head, I can't say. I haven't reviewed the samples after receiving the key. All I knew before receiving the key was which samples really stood out over the others. Upon receiving the key, I found out all of those samples were done with the T3.

The C3 seems to have that little bit of clarity that the C1 is missing, and it has multiple patterns. Its a no-brainer.

Tubedude...

Is the C3 clearer (in your opinion) than an AT4033 or an Audix CX111?

Those are the two mics I use now most of the time (with the 4033 being the mainstay). I'm just not happy with the sound.

hey Velvet Elvis,

I got a really mad vocal sound from the 4033 by boosting 1.9khz by about 3 dbs with a very wide curve. You can also boost around 250 for taste.

It made it sound very warm.

Cyan,

Thanks.. I'll give that a shot and see if that doesn't help.

The correct answer however (so that I can present this to my wife) is:

"I'm sorry, the only way to get a good vocal sound is to use a Studer 24 track 2 inch tape deck with a new fully automated SSL board, Neumann U87 and a 4200 SQFT recording room :)"

Oh well... I guess a new mic and maybe some EQ may have to work for now.

Instead I've got "poor man's automation"... get the kids in the room and tell them to push the "special button" when daddy says "NOW!".

C7...

Wasn't that a Dire Straits song?? ;-) bwahahaha

Yeah.. I've been toying with those as well. Rode has a whole buncha mics right in the price range I am looking.

Have you compared it directly with the C1, C3 or 4033?

Thanks ..

Velvet

"I want my... I want my... I want my NTV"

C7..

I know why you don't like SP... I've read your posts :)

I'll keep that in mind to check out the NTV over the NTK.
Any good source to use for pricing those?

Thanks,
Velvet Elvis

VE, check 8th street, zzounds, samash and interstate music.
Musician's Friend is only your friend if one of theirs died and they need to finance a funeral! :D

Velvet, when I sang both through the AT4033 and the C1, the C1 sounded better off
the shelf.

C7, hope you've been doing well, good to see you here again!

P.S. My understanding is that the Studio Projects VTP-1 is made right here in the Good
Old USA and Alan wants C7 to be the main "rep" (just kidding).

I like my NTV!

Hey C7sus...I am glad to see you are back, and I am truly impressed that you bought a mic with all Chinese components...good for you, you have made some progress :D

Damn Alan, I wasn't going to tell him.

Rode mics........Australian? Barely!!!

Although it is possible we will see some changes in the future with Rode announcing a new head of engineering. He has indicated further research into improving capsule and electronics designs, etc., etc. The guy comes from the design team of the Cochlear Implant Systems. But what's the bet that even if their research is Aust. based, the components may still be manufactured in Asia.

I'll take the Rode off C7sus's hands for $100! (That's US $'s)
O.K., I'll add $15 for shipping.

You feelin' generous Chess? :D

BTW, has Alan gone back into hibernation somewhere........lol.
