Buzzy noises

I recently bought a Zoom gfx707.Its effects includes a cabinet simulator. But the distortions on it suck, so I thought I would simply line up some distortion stompboxes into the input of the Zoom. Then I take the output of the Zoom into the input of my computer speakers.
Cabinet simulator makes those cheap speakers sound good like a pair stereo guitar amps. Without the distortion, that is.
Turn on any of the distortion stompboxes and all I get is buzzy and fuzzy distortion, it makes my slight overdrive crunch box sound exactly the same as my heavy metal box. Turn on the distortions on the Zoom itself and there is no difference. They all sound like plugging a stompbox straight into hifi speakers. I thought that a cabinet simulator was supposed to help solve the buzzy problem when plugging into non-guitar speakers? What should I do to get good distortion coming from computer speakers?
