Buzzing in Acid Pro 4.0 First post for GuySmiley

Hi yawl

This Is the third Time Writing this post and I am really really p.o.ed but i really really need this question answered. I am sorta new to all this turning your home into a studio thing so here goes...

I have a KEYBOARD. I have a MIXER that comes with a Dynamic, Cardioid (Unidirectional) wutever that is. what is unidirectional? Which one is the brand name? dynamic or cardioid? !! lol that shows how un-experienced i am at this man.. sheesh. Well i'm 19 so i got some years ahead o' me to learn.. anywayz. I bought a USB AUDIO INTERFACE from edirol so I could convert my audio into digio. Now when I hit the record button in ACID PRO 4.0 I get this Vexatious, Nasty buzzing sound. WHY!?!? I know that's a general question but let's make an adventure out of it k?! It'll be called, "Stopping sam's buzzing!" :):) I mean, it even happens when i'm listening to my comp. music sometimes.. ANY help will be much appreciated. Ask as many questions as needed and I will try my best to answer them. Oh be nice, this is my first post. :) ok bb
 
Do you have anything else hooked up via USB? Like Mouse or computer Keyboard etc?
What type of computer is it? Laptop or Desktop?


As far as that mic ..... none of those are the brand name.
The type is dynamic
The pattern is cardioid
Unidirectional means that it pick up sound from one (uni) direction. Most likely whats directly in front of it.
 
it's a laptop. yeah I'm hooking up my mouse too is that the problem?
 
hmmm. Well, With the mouse plugged in and everything, I got virtually no buzzing but once I turn on the mixer, that's when I hear it.. Is something not grounded??
 
I also noticed that Only when the keyboard line level is turned up is when the buzzing occurs. The mic is fine when it is turned up.
 
Yeah ... it kinda sounds like a ground issue then.
It could be the internal grounding scheme, or lack there of, of the laptop.
If the other gear you use has the three prong electrical plugs, you could try using ground lifts, those little adapters that you use when an outlet doesn't have a ground hole, and see if that helps.
Also check your cables and make sure none of them are faulty.
Also see if it still has the noise when the laptop is running off of the battery alone.
Wost case .... I have read some where of a guy having a ground issue with a laptop that turned out to be a defective mother board in the laptop. :eek:

Good luck and maybe others will have some suggestions also.
 
k thanx :) yah my mixer does have a 3 prong adapter.. plugged into a power strip with a surge protector. It's a pretty new laptop so i don't think it's a defective mother board. welp thanx for the help again. :)
 
if your already doing this then ignore.
bring the wall outlet out into a surge protected power strip
and ensure your different studio pices like computer, mixer,kbd etc plug into the same power strip. turn on computer last.
and dont pull out plugs in the strip while computer is on.
sometimes in my experience if the computer is plugged into a different oulet than the mixer - grounding issues can develope.
question - is your computer currently plugged into a different house outlet than the mixer ?
on the internet you can read about the "star grounding approach".
its important to understand.
if thatv doesnt work try replacing cables feeding in and out of soundcard.
all this asumes already that you are not say recording a buzzing
guitar amp.
this is all i can think of. hope this helps.
also just an idea - your not using light dimmers anywhere are you nearby or a fridge ?
