buzz rises in recorded track

My sound chain is:

- SM58 mic / direct line
- Mackie 1202 VLZ PRO
- Midiman Audiophile 2496
- Cakewalk Home Studio 2002

The problem is that there is an occasionaly "surge" buzz in the recorded tracks. A quick "bzzt" lasting half a second, appearing every once in a while. Just about every track has this happening once or twice, at no particular interval or event.

The thing is, I don't remember ever hearing the buzz during tracking. We monitor out of the board, so I'm thinking that the buzz is generated somewhere downstream, after the board.

Is it possible this is generated by the software (CSHS 2002)? Or is there some electrical interference close to the computer that causes this?

If anyone has ideas on how I can find and catch this little mouse, I'd appreciate some direction.

Thanks.

That's a real good possibility - I'll keep an eye out for that!

The fridge is a good 20 yards away from the recording setup - I'm not an electrician, but even if they're on separate circuits, will it cause the line noise in my computer?

Thanks again.

I had a similar thing happening with large tracks, (40+) in Sonar. Turned out to be related to my latency settings - by pushing these a little further up, it got rid of the glitch........

Just a thought..........

Thanks - I'll give that a try as well (pushing latency up).

Regarding the power surges, does it matter that I have a surge protector heading off all of my power connections? I thought that's what "surge protector" meant...

Have a good one -
