i am still playing with a learners permit. i purchased a washburn acoustic/electric. unfortunately, when i capo, i get buzzing/rattling sound on the 6 and/or 5 string. what can i do to fix the problem?

you are going to need your action raised or maybe your fret fialed.(sp?) It's a bitch when that happens. I HATE fret buzz!

What kinda capo?

I use a Shubb, and install it on the low-E side of the fingerboard. You wanna be sure the capo is parallel to the frets and has good solid pressure all the way across the fingerboard. The capo should be fixed about 1/16"-1/8" of an inch behind the fret.

Are you getting buzzing when capoing at the 5-6th frets or capoing at 3-4 and getting buzzing on your fingering at 5-6???

You aren't putting the capo "on the fret" instead of behind it by chance? That would buzz for sure, just checking for user error~

Do you get the buz when you are playing without the capo? If there is no buz when you fret the strings then it is a good sign that either the capo is not putting even pressure all the way across or you are not putting it on correctly.

i have a Kaiser capo. the capo is parallel behind either 2nd or 3rd fret (about 1/2 inch behind). the buzzing comes from the 6th (mostly), and (i think) the 5th string. primarily it happens when i am strumming hard. i will concede it may be operator error, but it would be from my poor playing technique, rather than how i am using the capo. by the way, being a new guitarist (using that word in the loosest of all manners), i feel like i just found a pot of gold with this board. even the crap i know nothing about is either funny or otherwise entertaining. of course, i know nothing that would be helpful to any of you.

It should be closer than a half inch behind. It should be RIGHT behind the fret. Not touching, but just behind the fret.

Also, the springs on Kysers wear out. That is what makes the Shubb so much the better capo.

thanks for the info. i will move the capo closer. unfortunately, it still buzzes. i don't get a buzz when i do same thing on my taylor big baby. can i file, or do something to deaden the last fret (the one that the string is hitting)?

Take it to a good repair shop, and have it looked at. There is NO way that anyone can give you anything like good advice about guitar repair without seeing and holding the guitar.

End of story.

There are litterally thousands of variables involved here (well, maybe just hundreds, but you get my point). There are just too many possibilities.

It's all about the G7th Performance Capo! Nothing to wear out! My Trigger capos send me out of tune, the Kysers wear out and the rubber points on the bottom of Shubbs always wear out too.

The only part of the Shubb I've ever seen wear out is the rubber sleave, and that cost 50 cents to replace, so I'm good with that.

But post a link on that one you mentioned. I'd love to take a look.

See Tourettes' post above. The thing works on a kinda clutch - no clicking ratchet or anything. Just squeeze it on and push down the switch to release. So the harder you squeeze the harder it clamps, so you don't need to adjust for different instruments/necks. They are a fabulous little bit of engineering but are a few notes more than a Shubb - not a biggy for most people.

Okay, so I got one of these things to try, and I have to say that it is very well made. It works well, and looks kinda cool.

HOWEVER, I paid more to get one wholesale than what I SELL Shubbs at. Even with a life time supply of the rubber sleaves, the Shubb is cheaper.

Nice product, buy way too expensive. Particularly when you consider that it doesn't actually work any better than a Shubb.

Wow, there must be a little bit of a difference in trade prices between there and here! The G7th is a bit more expensive than a Shubb, maybe half as much again, but I can tell you that our trade prices are nowhere near Shubb retail prices!!!

Nice one for trying one out, though. I'm a trigger capo man myself anyway ... and to hell with tuning!!

Yeah, I think it is the import taxes. I gotta believe that the only way he is going to make it work over here is to set up manufacturering in the states. As well as it works, it is just too expensive for something that most guitar players lose on a regular basis.
