My wifey has given me the thumbs up to buy another axe - what a woman. I want an American Tele. My budget is $1300 and under. Thoughts?

If I had that kind of $ for a Tele

well, aside from not getting the Tele, I'd go with the '52 RI.

But that's just me.

That'd get my vote too. Beautiful guitar. I also want a Nasville Deluxe.

If I had $1300.00 and permission to buy a Telecaster, I'd likely go for the '60s Custom Telecaster with Bigsby...in Candy Apple Red.

Nashville b-bender anyone?
G&L Bluesboy (my personal Favorite)

G&L.

I played a tribute ASAT special last week. Korean made, with pickups and I think also hardware from us. Blew away the mexi fender.

I can only extrapolate from playing the cheapies that the american ones are similarly better than the american fenders, but if you're spending that much, find and play a bunch of G&Ls.

damm .....

wow what a wife ......... if my wife found another guitar in the house ..... i would get beat worse than if she found another woman ......... :(

If it's a Fender you're after, both the MIA '52 reissue and the MIA Deluxe Ash come in at right around 1300 bucks.

One with humbuckers or the Tele "twang" is gonna annoy the shit out of you..

You need to play them first. I own a '52 reissue with Bare Knuckle Country Boy pickups that is absolute magic. I've played some '52 and '62 customs that are absolute dogs. YOU NEED TO PLAY FENDERS BEFORE YOU BUY 'EM

Another good option is assembling a parts guitar. What tone are you looking for: chickin' pickin', Keef, Albert Collins, or maybe Yardbirds/Led Zepplin?

Go to Warmoth.com and get a neck and body, then go to callaghamguitars.com and get the rest of your parts. $1300 could build somthing very nice.
