thats alot of pissn'......and i only piss to relieve myself....thats enough to put out the forest fire and cause a mudslide.

Well I'm not as decorated as wheelema but I have my stats. The only reason that I even remarked on Dell is that I worked tech for them for 3 years while in college so if I wanted a no fuss machine, that WOULD be the way to go. Just a little pricey for me but still a good machine.

but

JUST SO WERE ON THE SAME PAGE.... I have not heard one reason why larger HDD are less favorable than small. I, of course, am not buying into the.."Forces me to not be lazy" crap at all. NOT a reason. I have heard alot of good advice for HDD types and do agree with having a seperate HDD for OS.

Still waiting for the good reason to tank the larger HDD idea tho. I love it. When4 gigers came out ppl say STICK w/ 2. Then on and on from there. Next time, everyone will say "Do NOT go above 650 gig for best performance, those terabyte HDD's are junk"

Yeh I don't think having a large HD is too much of an issue. Just format with a large (at least 16K) block size for audio, should be sweet. The bottleneck is still the cpu

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I really appreciate it and it's helped me learn more about what I need to do. I'll definitely be getting a separate audio drive.

I have a question on soundcards real fast here. I'll probably go ahead and go with the Dell. Should I tell them to just not install a soundcard at all (standard Soundblaster is what they'd use) and just install the pci audio soundcard that I'll be getting to use with my Apogee converters? Or would it be ok to just get the Soundblaster? It's not like I'd be using that one as my recording card anyway.

Manning or anyone else: Does the Soundblaster card use a pci slot and if it does will it really make that big of a difference and slow down pci buss speed and interfere with my recording pci card that I'll be installing later?

Sorry. One last question. I'll be doing video editing on this machine as well. Are there any special changes I would need to look at adding on?

Soundblaster does use a PCI, and I would pull it just to reduce possible problems. I have heard that LCDs are not the best for video editing (relatively slow response), but nothing concrete.

If you are doing video editing...

...I'd be adding a separate drive for video storage and making sure that the HDD is 10k rpm. Also, up your RAM to at least a gig.

You'll spend more now, but you'll thank me later...from one who lived in that hell for a while already.
