buy Xv-5080 and my Pk-6 or sell my PK-6 and get the Motif ES6

What would be a better combintions for Acoustic Music. I play Pop Rock.

A)The Pk-6 and XV-5080

or

B)Motif ES-6

What is better flexibity of sounds and quality?

Will the price of the Motif Es-6 go down after Namm.

Why did the XV-5080 go down so much?


I currently have the Pk-6 with the Techno Expansion Rom installed. I originally bought this keybaord cause I was into electronic music.

I am now into Realistic Acoustic piano sounds, Acoustic rock and pop drums, And realistic strings and other instruments. My main focus is Acoustic piano and Acoustic drums which the PK-6 does not have.

I know the Motif ES-6 has an amazing piano and the drums are good to.

I heard the XV-5080 is an amazing machine, but never heard the sounds.

Should I add the XV-5080 to my PK-6 or sell The Pk-6 and Buy the Motif ES-6 and have everything in one.

I know the Motif Es-6 has an onboard Sequencer which I would like.

I don't think the Xv-5080 has a sequencer, so I would have to Midi it to my Computer in Cubase Sx, which is a pain sometimes, because I would have to turn on 3 things (PK-6, XV-5080, Laptop, then Cubase Sx)then work on my songs.

I like the Motif Es-6 simplicity, I think it would lead to more crativity faster and easier.

What would be more logical, Your opinions if you own both.

I have a midi interface 1 by 1 right now.

i have te xv-3080 and i love the sounds. i also bought the srx orchestra card. the piano sounds are pretty darn good, and the unit is very tweakable (midi & sysex) from the laptop.

there is also an srx expansion card specifically for piano.

the 3080 doesn't have the sampler. i just needed the sounds and roland sound triggering technology. i already had a sampler.
 
I can't really speak much for the 5080, save for a bit of time in the shop with one. I ended up with a 5050 - used it a little and sold it, the reason being I had a Motif Classic at the same time. I got the Roland box for the price of the 2020, which was perfect because I just wanted the expansion slots for some Roland cards I liked. Turned out that I ended up using the Motif sounds a lot more, particularly when I took the time to make my own patches.

Anything on your PK-6 you can find or create with either the Rolabd pieces or any flavor of the Motif.

It sounds like you're kinda interested in a workstation so you only have one power button to contend with, 64 voice polyphony aside, I'd recommend the original Motif since you can find used ones for 700 beans or so. If you go that route, you can keep your pk-6 & use it as a controller (isn't that the one w/keys?), free up some sometimes needed polyphony from your main board, sequence, sample, etc. all hardware based w/no external computer to bog you down.

If you decide to sequence w/cubase, then check the Mo' rack out. Each flavor of the yamaha has different sounds to varying degrees, but the rack & ES have different algorithms for their filters, and more flexible routing for effects.

Now that I think about it, for an all-in-one, your only option of what you've listed is an ES. Cool thing about the sampler on it is it's much more similar to the RS7000, giving you greater range of flexibility when it comes to manipulating samples. Better I.S.S. intergration, loop remix features, etc. Not necessarily better for you, just different than the other.

You should probably check the motifator web site, there you can compare all three flavors of the Motif & see which may best suit your needs.

I don't understand why, if you need a sampler & sequencer (and want things all in one), you'd consider a 5080 + your pk-6.

As far as soundsets go, you'll probably be happy with either. If you're not a sound tweaker, then maybe the Roland will take you farther simply because of all the expansion cards available - that'd be a matter of taste.

Crosstudio digs his 3080, I sold my Roland & kept, for a while longer, my Motif.

Both'll take you where you wanna go soundwise. The Roland was a little too "generic" for my tastes, but again, I bought it for the expansion slots.

Oh yeah, Motifs ain't all that "simple" to make sing, but once you learn your way around a bit you'll be glad you took the time to do so...

I have a pretty expanded XV5080. 4 of the JV expansion cards and 2 and the new expansion cards. Also got the sampling RAM (I have about 5-6 CD roms of s700 samples). It does "realistic" sounds amazingly well. However, the best bet is to go listen to them yourself in a music store. If possible, see if they will let you bring them home for a day or so (my music store will with a deposit and credit card number). You may find that what sounds great while noodling in a store, doesn't sit well in a mix. In any event, I love my 5080.

Thanks alot everyone, I am leaning towards the Motif Es, and selling my Pk-6. I might add a XV- ???? rack in the future.

The only question I have to decide now is to either get the Motif ES 61 or 76 keys.

its only a 300 dollar difference.
Is it worth it to get the extra keys, if your not sure if you need them.
the 76 weighs more and is bigger than the 61.
is the 61 efficient enough?
they are both semi weighted keys.

Your opinions?

The Motif 6 weighs a ton as it is. Even though I would have wanted 76 keys, the Motif 7 would have been an absolute pain to transport.
