All I'm really trying to say is take most of what he says with about a pound of salt, I know not everyone out there is going to do that, and PMI may just loose some customers because of some of the things he says. We don't try and please every single person its impossible, but we do try very hard to take care of the customers we do have.

Justin Hyatt

Wow, Its hard to believe that I raised this guy to be so level headed. You do a dad proud son...:D :D :D

How did I do that? :D:

I bet these guys can't wait until you take over. Actually, neither can I. :)

Alan AND Tom,

I hate to see two people that I happen to think highly of getting into this kind of petty stuff. Try cooling off for a couple of days.

Rather than fighting each other, you should be united against a common foe: Nady. :D

To be fair...He started it...:(

You know me...

Hell, I hope I get to meet Chessrock some day. I'd like to buy him a beer, or I am sure he would rather settle for a deal on a Stephen Paul mic, but him and I are fine. We handle each other fine.

I'm keeping my mouth shut on this one for a change, but I'm sure it isn't too tough to guess who's side I'm on in this pissing war. Tom didn't have to jump in on this one, because it's not like his statements uncovered any major revelations. But he is one of those guys who doesn't have as much to say as most . . . but when he does, it's usually worth listening to, so I wouldn't dismiss his statments.

Well there goes that Beer!! :D

I've been a Tom Cram fan since the RO days, but I gotta say, I respect a company who has the balls to say " fuck you " or whatever. Puts a human face on things!

Dig your hole...

so why do you have to go stick your nose in it by posting what you did. No other regular said anything because they follow the adventures of Chessrock and Alan? I think we make HR more interesting. Then out of the blue you turn up and spew.

I think I've explained myself pretty well already. Don't be so tedious.

You want to say my mics are bad, go for it. If you don't want to recommend them anymore, no problem because I don't recommend your companies either. If you don't want to buy them, I will survive as will yours. Hell, I don't buy any of what you sell so were even.

I have NEVER said that the Chinese mics you rebadge are bad.

You have started threads to complain how much my mics bothered you. Do you remember the one on RAP you started? You have gone out of your way Tom to find ways to criticize me and my products

Incorrect, the thread you refer to was about my disgust at your incessant spamming. I rarely have gone out of my way for anything that concerns you or your company.
and why not, your sister company is AKG...I can understand that. Your a promoter as well...You just do it differently.

Harman International owns AKG, dbx does not. I am not paid by AKG, am not affiliated with AKG, am not influenced by AKG, have never spoken or met anyone from AKG. Harman International owns STUDER too, you know what that gets me? Exactly squat. You are a very confused man.

Yes, a promoter I said. What was that post...Let me brag about my new console. Promoting you studio were we? Or how many AKG mics you have and how great they are. Yes, you SPAM!!!!! You do it your way Tom, but you do...

O.K., this is hysterical. I posted in delight about a new SHAPE console I scored for cheap and shared it with like minded audio professionals that I RESPECT, and that is SPAM to you? Well, I guess we have uncovered a fundamental misunderstanding of terminology on your part Mr. Hyatt. You may want to look up the definition of SPAM, or better yet, just go look in the mirror.

Tell me this Tom, where is the AKG Solid Tube made these days, and how many Chinese capsules and or parts are in the DBX and AKG stuff?

I have no clue, since I have no affiliation with AKG. dbx on the other hand has several products that are made overseas. They are clearly marked as such on the unit. I suppose you found that great secret by LOOKING AT ONE.

So lighten up already. Don't you have a DBX you need to fix or something?

No, I will not lighten up. I suppose that since you have lost me as a customer you feel you can further attack and insult me. Keep it coming Mr. Hyatt, I'm sure other potential customers are curious to see how you react when things don't go your way. After all your previous blather will be stored on a hard drive somewhere for all to reference FOREVER.

Not that I would ever care to have you here as I would probably find a sudden urge to whack you with a bat  :D but I think you will find our R&D department quite interesting. We do not rebadge anything here Tom. In fact, we just won the 2002 PAR Excellence award for our new LSD-2, which I think you need to take and chill out a bit, which was designed entirely in house as all of our mics and mic pres are.

So before you go spreading false information, be sure of what you say as that can get you into trouble. You may want to check with your company since you put their name on your posts, I am sure they would not want you to put out false statements. Might be a good idea to check on that one.

As for the rest of the stuff you keep rambling about, I think by now it is you that is acting like a child and making a fool of yourself. I don't have to look at a DBX box or several AKG mics to know where they are made. After all, with the glut of Chinese signal processing and mics out there, I see nothing that distinguishes AKG or DBX other than your personal attacks, and mean spirit.

My potential customers know the following about me. They buy a very good product at a very good price. If anything ever breaks or has a problem, I am all over it like stink on a skunk. They know that even during a flood when their mic has landed in 6 inches of water, I offer to fix it for free. My customers know exactly where I stand with them and exactly what it is that I am doing for them. If there is one disatisfied customer out there, let them speak up. My behavior has nothing to do with the way I conduct business, design microphones, or promote them in my way.

I am on these boards for many reasons, and by now all of them know my demeanor. Some are fine with it, others are not. I always add my smiley faces so the intended party will understand my meaning, but obviously a few don't. Oh well, you can't please everyone. Tell it like it is I always say.

Either way I advise many, and I help many. As for what will be on the hard drives forever...Who the hell cares. At least I will be remembered for something!

Hey, we must be doing something right!

I wonder how well an SP mic and a dbx pre would work in the same chain?
DOH!!

Holy shit, Batman! Michael, you asked a question I am fairly informed on. Almost every day, I am plugging a C3 into a DBX386 with an RNC in line. That makes me a customer of Alan Hyatt, and Tom Cram, and Fletcher. That's one of the reasons I find all of this so disturbing. I have no axe to grind with any of these guys, and they all sell good stuff, and try to stand behind what they sell. Chessrock, if you were selling good gear cheap, I'd probably buy it from you also.
My point here is that long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far, away, some poor bastard was trying to plan his signal chain, so I will talk about the pres. Michael, although you probably asked the question in jest, I'll give you the benefit of my experience. I use the DBX mostly for an acoustic instrument channel. If I turn down the drive enough to get the channel as clean as I want, I find it helps to boost the gain slightly at the RNC, say about 4db. This allows me to turn the drive down to less than 9 o'clock, and get a hot enough digital out to track on the Roland at about -4 to -2, with an acceptable noise floor. Generally, I do this with small diaphragm condensers, reserving the C3 mostly for vocals, where I track through a Joemeek. Truth is, when I combine the products of these contentious mothers, I get the beautiful harmony I wish they could live in. I'm with you, Harvey.-Richie

I myself am running a C1 to dbx263a in the insert on my VTB1, and I hope to aquire a 163 comp. I even have an old dbx 118 comp and a 1bx II.

They seem to get along fine in the rack.

My interpretation of "both sides of the fence" was that
it just meant a double standard in treating Fletcher and Alan.
(right, wrong, or sideways)

As you're both intelligent individuals, hopefully this will settle
down soon. How many times have we seen all these "discussions" usually mellow out over time.

BTW, I think Chessrock would make a hellava good quality control
engineer for an audio firm. Maybe DBX and PMI could arm wrestle
over getting him? :)

Peace,
Chris

I don't know Tom Cram at all. (And I have no affiliation with ANY audio company - but that's only because none of them want anything to do with me!) But I do know a few other guys who work in tech support for other companies. As far as I know, none of them get any kind of commission on sales, or even significant stock bonuses if the company does well.

I suppose it's possible that Tom is a secret agent for Harmon let loose to sabotage PMI by voicing carefully scripted "opinions" on the internet. But Occam's Razor and all that would lead me to believe that Tom is just another guy who, after finishing his day job, likes to relax by shooting the shit with like minded individuals. And posting his dbx affiliation is an upfront way of defusing accusations that he is a "plant".

Do I think that he over-reacted? Yup! (I mean, do any of us really think Alan was questioning his "manhood"?)

Can Alan be oversensitive, opinionated, egotistical, and self-promoting? Well, hey, we all have our faults...

And am I a pot calling a couple of kettles black? Mea culpa!

I also guiltily acknowledge that the cat-fight has been a lot of fun to observe - which is sort of like admitting you go to NASCAR hoping to see a crash...

What's really amazing is how these two guys can go on and on and never seem to have a spelling error or typo in their posts!:p

It held the same degree of interest for me that driving past a bad wreck on the freeway does.

I'm sorry when it happens, but I still slow down to look.

This wreck was a little too bloody for me. As to which driver cut the other one off first, the twisted metal on the highway suggests that it isn't too important - what's more important is how each driver reacted after the problem started.

I got some bad salmon at TGI Friday's after voting the day before yesterday. So I spent all that night and all day yesterday becoming very familiar with the contents of my stomach. In-between bouts of spewing I had a realization. Vomitio Inductu Cogitae. Heh, I'm still a little 'out there' so forgive me if I ramble.

This little meaningless tangle that Mr. Hyatt and I got into actually illustrates one of the problems of internet communication quite clearly. You never know exactly who you are talking to, so let me clarify. Mr. Hyatt is quite convinced that I have some hidden agenda and he completely ignores anything contrary to this view.

I truly was a potential customer.

When SP mics first came out I was quite excited. It really is a good idea to mesh China's mass manufacture with American design. I have no problem with his mics, as I have stated over and over again. I honestly do not understand why he keeps coming back to defend his mics, I have no problem with his mics.

I got turned off to PMI by you and you alone Mr. Hyatt. I know it's easy for you to try to use the fact that I work for dbx against me. This is missing the point, and tilting at windmills on your part. So I will say it again, I was a potential customer.

So on to Vomitio Inductu Cogitae. I realized yesterday that this is actually a great opportunity for you Mr. Hyatt. You could become a giant among distributors, a king on the web, a goliath of presidents, if you could WIN ME OVER.

I am a customer wronged, so I challenge you to MAKE IT RIGHT Mr. Hyatt. No more paranoid and ridiculous B.S. about plots from AKG and dbx to destroy you. Just you and me. The President of a company and a pissed off potential customer.

I skeptically await your response.

Tom Cram

I dont' care what you guys say, Mastermindzz should at least get a VTB-1 first.
Oops, sorry I somehow wandered ON topic.

The best solution IMHO , if possible, would be for you two to meet each other sometime (trade show?). Tom could have Chessrock's beer. :D If you and Alan aren't careful, you could even become (gasp) friends! Stranger things have happened.
After all, both of you have helped the "newbies" like me with
good advice and information so you have something in common,
along with being fellow gearheads.

Chris

P.S. If and when you meet, don't eat dinner at TGIF's.
