Hi guys.
I have a 1010LT that I have never really gotten the opportunity to make much use out of for various reasons that I won't go into. It is time to start recording my ideas and I'm wondering what would be the best route to go at this point.
I don't have a mixer and I hear that the 1010LT pre's are ok at best. So if I'm really going to get off the ground here and make full use of the card's capabilities I would have to pick up a mixer (preferably with 8 or more pre's) and some cables to run from the inserts or the Hosa recording snake which seems pretty cool.
The other option that has me intrigued is for maybe a little more than picking up a decent mixer would be to pick up a Firepod to record with. It seems to have any of the features I would need as well. One benefit of this route is that I could use it with my laptop or with my desktop that I'll be setting up as a dedicated recording machine. A little more versatility.
I'm really quite ignorant when it comes to recording, but it is my understanding that going from the inserts in a mixer out to the Delta card would pretty much bypass most of the features of the mixers and basically send the signal out un-eq'ed, etc. from just after the pre's on the mixer anyway. That being (I think) the case, then it would come more down to which device would have higher quality pre's, I think as the mixer itself wouldn't have much of a function for me beyond that.
Also if I got the Firepod, maybe I could sell the 1010LT on eBay for a little cash for a condenser or something?
Anyway, any advice or general clearing up of mistakes in my thought process would be great. I welcome any other suggestions as well.
Thanks.
