This Is Poison

New member
I have a 002r on layaway (I have a problem with buying gear at the same time that I have to pay other gear off.) guitar center is selling them for approx. 300 dollars cheaper now that the 003 is out.

to those of you with experienxe with these products:

is the 003 worth the extra money? I know that they "redesigned" the pres, added wordclock, and also added a second headphone output, but in your opinion, is it all worth the money?

I haven't seen the 003 in person yet, but the the way the new knobs are designed makes me a little uneasy. they look like they jut out and are too thin... something you wouldn't want somebody to accidentally bump.

opinions please and thank you.

no help? I don't want to look back and regret my decision.

The 003 looks like a bunch of useless changes if you ask me, not really an upgrade. And looks like many on the digi forum think so, too. You can save $300 on the 002 new? Do it.

that is EXACTLY the sort of answer I was looking for.

the main thing I'm worried about is if I'll be missing out on significantly better pres. I read on the digidesign forum that the 003 isn't really meant to be an upgrade for 002 users but that its more of a platform for new users.

I've been leaning more towards the 002, and you're response is definitely reassuring.

thanks for the help

wordclock is a nice step up. but other than the few things they've changed, I would still buy the 002 over the 003 right now because of the prices

I agree. by the time that I'll really really need wordclock, I'm sure I'll have upgraded to an even better setup than the 002. until then, I'll stick with paying off the 002 and using that.

+1

Alright, I have very little experience with hard disc recording systems, and so I must ask... what is Wordclock?

nothing you need to be concerned about unless you're running multiple pieces of digital equipment into your computer.
It's just sort of a master clock for your digital gear.

Get the 002 then with the money you save send it to www.blacklionaudio.com

It will not sound remotely the same when you get it back. The mods they do to the clock and the pres are wild. There's a ton written about this mod already but just wanted to say from first hand exp it's great.

Not to hijack this thread, but do you know if they do mods on Mbox2s, and if so, is that worthwhile as well?

I've actually been reading up on that for awhile. do you think it's all personal preference, or does it really improve the overall sound of the pres?
