Button Button Button on the AKG 3000

I just know the "Engineer" will be able to answer this one or one of you erudite technicians viewing this question.

I use the AKG 3000; it is an ample mic; I'm sure there are much better ones out there for different ears.

But, here is my question:

On the sleeve of the mic there are three little button switches and they go to the left or the right; what is the best position of these little buttons for vocals??

I'm experimenting but I figured someone could tell me succinctly which way to push these little buttons with my ball point pen.

Hi TGH,

I am not reel upto date on the latest AKG's, or a technical wizard by any standard. From what I remember, they (TOL) always had a 3 - position EQ built in. I wish I could be more succinct, but if you don't clip your righthand index fingernail for a bit, you won't need to rely on a ball point pen - provided you are right handed.
 
The three switches are for
Pattern: cardiod or hyper cardiod. Use cardiod, you'll have less proximity effect (not as boomy).
Roll Off: For vocals I'd use the roll off (again less boominess).
Pad/Attenuator: If you're working the mic up close and you're a screamer, you might want to use the pad.

Thanks for the input. Since I use the mic for vocals, and now know I can eliminate some "boom boom di boom, I will flick the switches.

Naw, I don't want to whittle my fingernail down; so, I'll still use the ball point pen.

Yo Guys who told me to push the switches left/right.

As I look at the switches, holding the mic in my non-nail-filed hand, they were all on the left side; [I can't understand the icons that designate whatever on the handle of the mic] so, for optimum results for vocals, should the top switch be right or left; same questions for the two remaining switches.

When the switchs are to the left they're in the off or bypassed position. The icon that looks like a mushroom is the cardiod pattern. The one that has a few extra lobes on it is the hyper-cardiod pattern. The icon that's a straight horizontal line is for no roll off. The one that has a diagonal line comeing up and joining a horizontal line is for the low freq roll off. The attenuator should be self explanitory.

AKG 4000 mic

Yo mic extrapolators:

I got a couple of nice notes from an AKG rep and he told me to TRY OUT the AKG 4000 in the studio; he claims it is a dynamite mic.

Any opinions?

I Haven't Heard It

But I know someone here has one and really likes it. With that said, the price of the C4000 is really getting up to a price-point that I would most likely care for some other mics in the same price-range.

Thanks for your opinion of the AKG4000; will shop around and see what I can come up with: Usually, Full Compass is the lowest price in town.

Sweetwater Sound: used to buy from them but they refused to give me a new salesperson when the anomoly of a salesperson I had became like tendonitis. So, I don't buy from them.

I don't know what the deal is with this mic, but everywhere I have seen it, it is always the same price (new). I haven't seen a used one yet. If you can find it cheaper, let me know. I would love to have another one.

Ola Mis Amigos:

El microphone AKG 4000 B or without the "b" seems to run 499 in most of my spot checks. Of course, next month, who knows. Electronics start out fast and high and go slower and lower with time. Just think! What the heck are they going to do with all those mics that are not sold?????
