As the years have worn on, I've become cockier and cockier with regard to my perceived ability to fix broken microphones, and have even begun buying them broken, confident that I'll be able to fix them (the good news is that I usually can) - finally got my #$@ -> :spank: (any excuse to use the new icon! Had to go for it).

I got an Audix D6 in the mail yesterday - no signal at all, but it's in perfect condition visually. Zero resistance between each of the three capsule leads where they originate at the capsule housing and the tip of the corresponding XLR pin, and no shorts. I even rigged up a test XLR jack and touched the three leads to the right places on the capsule housing - nothing.

I already contacted the Audix service dept., but I figured I'd post here to see if anyone has any other ideas before I ship it off.

Order a new capsule...might be quicker than sending the whole mic off...thats what they are going to do anyhow...at least it wont sit on a bench forever.

cool - I ordered the cartridge assembly from Audix - I have to say that was about the most helpful and amazing customer service experience I've ever had - they emailed pictures, instructions, tested the cartridge and sent me the plot via email, and even put a plastic coffee stirrer on the wires to use a guide when I put them through the body of the mic (with a pic of that, too) - all within the space of an hour - whoah....

I chose the cheapest shipping, so it could take awhile to get here, but I'll update when I get it.

Got the new cartridge today (could have had it yesterday, but missed the signature-only delivery) - popped it in, soldered it up, and boom - works great! That was awesome. The cartridge was $35 + shipping.
