Whats the deal with the Burr Brown chips? Seen the name a few times recently. Gonna look around for some info, if anyone has any, let me know whats up with them. I read somewhere that replacing something in the Presonus mp20 class-A preamps with burr brown "whatevers" makes it sound fantastic. Actually heard this about quite a few preamps.
Any info?

I read that too.

I heard that using that chip gives classic neve sound.

I dunno about Neve-like...

Burr-Brown makes opamps, converters (mostly for high-end hifi stuff, I wonder why I haven't seen them in recording gear?) and other ICs. They actually have some schematics for mic pres based on their chips on their website:

Best of all, the chip is $4.61 in quantity and I've heard around $12 each for just a few. I have it from a reliable source that this chip and this design would make a nice pre. The thing I'm realizing after more reading, is that the actual implementation of these designs will have a drastic effect on the sound. You have to keep certain wires away from others, watch power supply stuff, etc.
