I bought Windows XP home edition. I popped the CD in and fliped the computer on.

It reads the CD fine and boots. Loads up. Then when it comes time to actually install it, it says "Unable to instal,cd rom can not read disk or invalid disk or etc etc..." It doesn't make sense. MY cd rom is brand new and reads cds fine. I tested it on my broken old windows before I decided to format. It's literally a day old. It burnt a cd and read some fine. What could be this issue? Could it be a faulty disk. I called Windows support, but all they could come up w/ is to return the disk and get another.

This is the screen before it gets to my error page.
Please help. If I dont have one issue, it's another.

I was thinking maybe there was an alternative issue. So I wouldn't have to go back. Ah well.

The screen shot you showed is what happens when you're upgrading and there is no previous version to upgrade from. Did you buy the full version or an upgrade? If you are just installing WinXp on a blank HD you need a full version or the CD from a previous version. But that really doesnt sound like to problem you described.

Yeah, what he said.

Your post said you were getting a "can't read disk" error, but your screenshot said that "Windows can't find a previously installation." Two different problems. Taking it back to the store won't fix the latter problem.
