Hi fellas..
I'm really happy 'cause I've collect cash to build my new machine..
I really need a help cause Im not really into those config stuff..
Please help me, you experienced.. :)

Here's the machine that I'm planing to buy..
CPU AMD ATHLON XP 2500 PR / 333
MB GIGABYTE 7VT600-1394
RAM 512 MB 333ÌHz KINGSTON
HDD 120 GB Western Digital WD400JB 7200 rpm 8Mb cache
VGA ATI Radeon 7500 64MB +TV-out

What do you think? Is it a good machine?
The PC I've had till now will be my second PC in the studio..It's also a good machine, AMD Athlon xp 1500+,768 mb ram, 2x 80 hdd'S..

I want to connect them with that new thing called FX TELEPORT via LAN and work those VSTi's that way.. What do you think?
Planning to install XP on both machines, and my main proggrams are Cubase SX and SForge,Wavelab.. Have an RME DIGI Hammerfall 9652 card..

Please respond and give me some suggestions..
I really need a fast help indeed..

One more thing..

Sorry. Forgot to tell you..
It's all built in INWIN J523 ATX 300W POWERMAN case..

The only thing I would recommend is splitting that one 120gig drive into 2 80gig drives.

Always better to have the audio on a totally separate HD.

I'd also go with an Asus A7N8X motherboard, as opposed to the Gigabyte.

My biggest question is "why a VIA powered board, when you can get an NVidia?"

VIA has produced failure after failure with their chipsets, and has a long history of this. Note how many of their chipsets are A-suffix models because they screwed up the first try.

KT133 - KT133a
KT266 - KT266a
KT400 - KT400a

VIA has had a long and chronic history of problems with USB, sound, and AGP. Rumor has it that VIA reverse engineered these functions, rather than license them from Intel. I have no verification of this other than the chronic amount of bugs in VIA products.

Take a long, hard look at the vast number of 4In1 driver releases that have come from VIA. They can't get their software right, either. The NVidia chipset has pushed VIA out of the #1 slot for a very good reason: it works. The fastest boards out there today are nForce powered. IMO, the VIA KT600 chipset is yet unproven, and most likely another dud like all the others.

So, why not an Asus or Abit board with the nForce chipset?
Why a 2500-XP with 333 FSB, when the Gigabyte board supports 400 MHz?

The new AMD Barton processors in 400 Mhz are a perfect fit with 400 Mhz FSB boards and 400 MHz memory. An nForce board using two sticks of memory will operate in Dual Controller mode for superior performance.

The ATI Radeon 7500 is a VERY good card. I am using it right now, but it is a little out-dated. Why don't you look at the Radeon 9000. You can get it at BuestBuy for $89.99. I would reccomend ATI to anybody.

Here we go..

Thanx guys for quick respond:)

To Polaris20:
Sorry..I forgot to write it down.. I have 2 (two) Western Digital HDD's with 120gigs..Is that ok? they're the same cause I want to connect them with RAID controller..

To bgavin:
It seems that only Gigabyte mobos are available here in my country.. cant find asus or abit's..:(
I was told from my PC guy that gigabyte with that new kt600 via chipset would be working ok..
What do you think?
Tell me more about it:)

Have you checked out http://www.sysopt.com for the motherboard you are looking at? They have a ton of user-reviews on all kinds of different equipment. That'd be a good place to start checking out the equipment you have spec'd out.

[sarcasm]Yeah my Via based computers that I've built have been so horrible that everyone's happy with them.[/sarcasm]

Why then, does Digidesign recommend Via, as does Echo? If you wanted one of these cards, nVidias aren't even supported.

The point is that you have to do the research on the card that you'll be using, and choose a chipset from there.

I have always used Via, and will continue to do so, because it works.

If you can only get Gigabyte, here's one you might look at, It seems to have everything you would want:

Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro

I have no experience with this board, you might want to look for reviews, I have an Epox nForce2 myself.

I have had a couple of FIC Boards that has a Via chipset on them and I have had no problems with them. I still have them and they both still work great. They are slow (AMD K6-2 450 and 500), but they get the job done!

I just think the "Via is bad" argument is for someone who hasn't done the proper research for DAW use.

Via works with:

Digidesign
Echo
Tascam

nForce works with:
M Audio
Aardvark
RME

Just do the research, decide what card you're going to use, and go from there.

Sounds like a great machine to me. I wasn't aware of this FX TELEPORT thingy. I did a search on it. It sounds pretty interesting. I have 3 computers connected thru a router, so I may give this a try.
