Lapdance Test Dummy
Im almost convinced im going to build myself a new computer optimized for digital audio recording. I am curious as to what everyone is using as far as hardware, software, and the results you get such as number of tracks, effects, etc...I know everyone's tastes are different and needs vary, but im just looking for something to base my decisions on...thanks for the input!!

I was actually thinking about the same thing, I live in the UK and got some fairly good info from a site devoted to get the best online prices out of cases, motherboards, processors, RAM, etc, etc...check it out for some guidance (not really a Audio primetime waster...)> www.computerprices.co.uk

this is what I run:
450Mhz Pentium III
256 MB PC 100 SDRAM
9.1GB AV rated SCSI Hard Drive
2.2GB internal Orb Drive
20x 8x recorder, SCSI internal CD-R Drive
40x CD-ROM Drive
Diamond Viper v770 3-D Video Card
LynxOne 24 bit Sound/Recording/Midi Card

SOFTWARE:
Steinberg's Cubase VST/24 3.7
Steinberg’s Wavelab 2.0
ReBirth 2.0
Sim Synth (for some sampled FX)

And I get 96 different channles of perfect 24 bit audio unlimited tracks of audio and midi
AND I BUILT IT MY SELF!
do-it-yourself is the way to go

If your are going to build a computer yourself..Then go for the gold.

1: find a MB that will accept a 5-600mhz processor. And 256meg of ram.
2: Make shure it has at least 3 pci slots.
3: Put at least 2 10gig hard drives in it.
4: Get a Layla or Aardvark 20/20.
5: 17" monitor.
6: 4x4x6 CDRW

For the best results use it only for your recording. Just seems to work better that way.

Two options:

Good option:
Pentium 3 500
128dvd ram
5 gig harddrive*how ever many you can afford/need/want (scsi)
portman Midi card and outbox
midiman delta 66
40 speen cd rom drive (scsi)
top of the range yamaha internal cd burner (scsi)
(this is pretty much what i run)

Best option:
(this is what i want)
Pentium 3 700 quadchip
5*9 gig scsi hard drive
1024 mg dvd ram
Neve VR mixer automation and customized A/D for every channel (instead of pci card)
HHB external calafornian built burner
50speed DVD CD player (internal is better for this pourpose)
DVD burner (internal)(stay with the new tecnology, great for backing up. i just got one)
andremember 1 monitor is never enaught, go for 5 or 6

Ahhhhh, dreams
