Has anyone ehere ever built a microphone from a 12-inch speaker? I've heard about people using these to record bass drum.

I just changed the speakers in my Twin and now have a couple of 12-inch speakers not doing anything but collecting dust. If anyone knows what to do to turn one of these into a mic, let me know. I mean, is it as easy as wiring the leads to a phono cable and plugging it in to the mixer? That would be so easy and nice.

Thanks folks.

I think it works better with an 8" bass speaker suspended with rubber bans at the end of a kick tunnel and plugged into a DI before the mixer. ;)

Thanks! I'll let you know how well my design works when I finally put it together...

Where in the hell are you going to get a pop filter for that mic?

my mum's panty's :)

btw, make sure you don't turn on the phantom power of your mixer if you haven't got a DI in that chain...

Good luck. Personally, I'd rather spend a little more money and buy a Shure Beta 52 or similar respected mic. I can't believe that the sound quality on a homemade "speaker mic" would be great, unless you know exactly what you're doing. If you need to do something with the speakers you could always try and sell them...

echoes.......i believe he was referring to the the miking a bass drum with both a mic and a speaker method.
