Not to come off as a shill, but my company's Portable Vocal Booth is much larger and works much better than any of those.

There are two things these devices aim to accomplish - removing room ambience from being captured by the microphone while adding minimum coloration, and blocking sound from other noises in the room such as a computer fan. The RealTraps Portable Vocal Booth is very large and made from very absorbent material. So when you sing into the PVB, your voice is absorbed which prevents it from getting out into the room in the first place to bounce around. This graph shows the coloration of our PVB versus an sE Reflexion Filter. (The microphone's response alone is also shown so you can see that the major response deviations are due to the room):

This next graph shows how much more effective our PVB is at blocking sound coming from the rear:

Also on the above page are links to short "slide show" videos where you can hear recordings made with the PVB and Reflexion filter. The better reduction in room ambience, and reduced coloration, with the PVB are very obvious.

That's interesting - I was looking at getting one of these for the non-booth recordings. I like what I see with the bass response! And Rick, I feel you on the Lady Gaga view. Should have said gimmicks and artists! But my point was valid

'Preciate it. MY point was..IN MY BOOK, just because you have a grammy or sing doesn't mean you are a REAL "musician". Far from it. Same with "RAPPERS"Bet she doesn't have a clue what an Emin7b5 is. But she sure wears an EGG well.

That's possible. And while I can only name the Lady Gaga songs that literally bombard us all from the airwaves, according to multiple sources "At age 17, she became one of only 20 students to gain early admission to the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, where she studied music and songwriting".

So, while *I* may not be able to throw down an E minor 7 flat 5... It's my understanding that LG can. Probably better than you or I.

Thankfully though, I missed the egg debacle part of the Grammys.

Not that it matters, but I couldn't name one. No since in remembering something that makes me sick. Frankly, I couldn't name any tune that's come out in 20 years. Except for "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow." I liked that. Once I heard John Lee Hooker...well, that's my kinda stuff. Pop doesn't do a thing for me anymore. Especially since everything sounds the same..as far as MP3/digital mix's are concerned. uhg..

WOW! You talk to that many "music" producers"? I'm not even sure if I've ever met a REAL music producer in person. I've talked to a lot of hacks that have call themselves "music producers", though. Maybe we know the same people.

I just built a vocal booth in a small concrete closet in my home acoustically treated it and it sounds great far from dull and muffled and thats with a cheap mic cant wait to get my u87 an 1073 and try it out. Maybe a big space treated would sound better but sometimes you just have to make the best out of what you have got, 1000s of people who use small space vocal booths and create wonderful sounding vocals just as some people use large rooms and produce terrible vocals.

lol @ a u87 and a 1073 for recording rap in a closet. Also, how would you know how great is sounds if you haven't tried it out yet?

Hi every1. I am kind of new to the site and really need some serious help on building a wood vocal recording booth. I am kind of confused about the dimensions but the maximum i can go is 3.4m squared. Any suggestions you can make?
