Hi. I was thinking about building my own desk. I had a few questions. How much, average, would you say it is to buld your own desk. Im thinking a fairly good sized one about 6' wide, 4' deep.

Also, where can you get racks parts to have a rack rails built into the desk, if they even just sell the rails that is. You can tell I dont know much abotu building my own desk, but the ones I see prebuilt are way to expensive. Though I did find a pretty good one for 600, but I was wondering if buling one would be a lot cheaper than that or pretty much around the same price range. Thanks.

look around ebay for rack rails. there's a couple different companies on there selling just the rails. runs about a buck a space before shipping for a pair. so a 12 space rail pair is about $12. the rest of the desk will totally depend on design and materials used. you can get huge sheets of MDF at home depot for like $20-30 a piece. actual wood will run quite a bit more then that.

2x4 studs, Pine boards & plywood should be pretty cheap.
Paint it all and call it a day.
The ebay rack rails work pretty well btw.

You can even get rack rails at guitar center. There are a bit more money but if you need them immediatatly you can probably find them locally.

To save on materials, if you have old doors that are solid, they can work very well. Or you may find i neighbor has some, look around. Or, if you don't mind mismatched colors, you can use parts of new desks aswell. I took the route of just modifying my desk to work by adding a small "bridge" with some rack spaces, and a larger rack that I currently don't have anything in. That and made a keyboard shelf. I spent about $7 in materials and problaby $20 on rack rails.
