Building a recording bass.....

Anyways I am gonna build my first bass and wanted to put some cool pickups in it so it sounds good live as well as recorded. I was thinking about buying Fender P bass pickups.

Has anyone had these pickups or played with them? If so was it a good experience?

And are volume pots and tone pots the same?

And has anyone found a good "glossy"coat to put on the bass after it is painted? Thanks

I'd see if I could find some G&L's or Bartoli's

I'd advise going to the Talkbass forum and do a search in the luthier's section
