Im building my own custom pc and this may sound like a stupid question but im somewhat new to recording and I need to know. Does an audio interface, such as my Tascam US 1800, take the place of a pc sound card? In other words, do i need to focus on getting a really high end sound card if i will be doing ALL my recording through my US 1800? thanks for any replies!

The Tascam absolutely replaces a PC sound card. Even the "high end" conventional ones are really just aimed at gamers and are virtually useless for recording purposes.

It's possibly useful to have an absolutely basic "Realtek" type of thing installed just so you can hear basic sounds if you ever don't have the Tascam connected but that's about it.

Thanks for the reply bobbsy. Thats what I needed to hear(or read....) I just wasn't sure. Thank you for clearing that up!

Yes it does take the place of the PC's sound card. However If you are building a PC Please make sure you have a backup drive preferably external. I went down a horrible road with this 7 years ago.
