Building a mac based studio

I have just purchased a mac, now funds are a bit stretched a bit after forking out for the little rascal. My dilema is what sound module? I am looking at an M-audio 1418 external fire wire or perhaps a terratec phase 88 but I am open to sensible suggestions. I want to use pro-tools but it would have to be a lite version or something because I am begining to become restricted by my budget.
 
If you want ProTools then you (i belive) have to go with an M-Audio solution and get ProTools M-Powered, great little software, not expensive compared to CuBase but its quite limited.

(I think its out for mac isnt it?)
