People have been selling those on ebay for $10 - $15 for years

To be perfectly honest they can only be a step up from the normal laptop mic.

A mic 'worth' $3.00? There are probably many mics that cost many times that that are 'worth' about $3.00 :D

As far as a mic costing $3.00 to build - well one can only assume it's going to sound about what a $3.00 mic should sound like. (unless we're talking overseas labor rates here, in that case that $3.00 is probably enough to put together another Nady mic :D )

Actually if you use the panasonic capsule they sound more like a $49.99 mic

If by bad you mean sweet, then yes!

oh, i meant to say bad ass. yes...

i built a pretty sweet mic in electronics 10... lol, not like that though

Go check out the yahoo group "micbuilders" maybe. They do stuff like that all the time... I've been meaning to do some for a while, and now I actually have money, but will have to wait until summer when I'll have a place to work and tools...

I found http://www.lawrencemetal.com/productlist.html?basemodel=920 a while back, and that's got me all inspired (haha, I typed expired by mistake - something I do NOT want to be).... I figure some black tubing with b rass grill would look sweeeeet.

I recently picked up a behringer ecm8000, not bad for the price.

I reckon I'll do some modding on it, as I already went and scraped up the "nose" trying to remove the cap type part, and ripped the wires off the capsule in pulling it off... =D
