Budget Changable Pattern Mic Any Good?

Budget changable pattern mic seems to be very convient and save a lots but are they any good or is it better to buy seperate cardioid and omni mic? Anyone has experience on budget changable pattern mic such as Audix SCX-1 and Apex 420. Rode NT2 seems to be more expensive and with this kind of price, two seperate patterns mic can be purchased.
 
If it's a "Budget changable pattern mic..." you're looking for, IMHO, the Oktava MC-012 from The Sound Room only, for $280US, is the best way to go.
