Hey guys this is my first cover recording. Not sure why I did it except I think the original is beautiful and the subject is "in the air" these days.
I started off basically with the intent of emulating it completely. Then I just decided that was a ridiculous thing to do, or try. But I did incorporate most of Knopfler's licks as best as I could in an evening, including the fingerpicking, which I don't do nearly often enough . His phrases are simple in notation, but complex in delivery, and I don't think I could capture his playing in a night.
Dire Straits version was recorded in 1985, which dawned on me to day was 18 years ago. Man time flies when you're playing your guitar!
Anyway, it's heavily loaded with flaws, but hopefully there are enough good moments to justify the effort. IOW, it's for listening "pleasure" mostly. But if something bugs ya feel free to throw it my way!
