Broken XLR Cable - Potential for Damage?

I was using my condenser mic when I realised something was wrong as it was making all kinds of noise. On closer inspection, I realised the XLR cable I was using had a broken connection on one of the signal wires (terrible workmanship I have to say... Who on earth soldered this thing?!). Is there a danger of any lasting damage being caused from this oversight (either to my mic or my pre)? I'm thinking particularly about the phantom power aspect. Luckily I was able to spot there was something amiss quite early and so hopefully not! Think I've used the same cable with my active DI too...

Never, ever had phantom power damage any mic - condensers, dynamics or ribbons. Mics are designed to cope with this sort of thing, All those tales of doom and gloom have no real substance.

Thanks for your replies, that's reassuring. I'll have to run down to the hardware store to get some more solder!

I have never had damage occur - but I’ve been very cognizant of my RCA Ribbon mics never getting voltage - modern Ribbons I’ve never had a problem.
