I bought this Tascam 488 Portastudio about six months ago from some guy who had owned it for many years and was selling for a very good price (at least for the country I live in, which is Chile). It was in very good shape, the only problem was it being a bit dirty and some of the buttons being kind of hard.

I did a few recordings with it (I will upload them sometime) and everything was fine until some of the buttons stopped working (record function 5, 6 and sometimes 7). I oppened the tascam to take a look at the switches and see if I could figure out what was wrong. I discovered that the record function 1 switch was broken, but was still working and record function switches 5, 6 and 7. didn't work at all. Tracks can still be selected for recording, I tested them, but the switches are not working.

How can I replace the switches so I can record on all 8 tracks again? PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm assuming you're talking about the "group buttons". I would try to get in there and clean the contacts in which those buttons make contact with...unless the button is totally missing,..then you would have to put something in there similar for contact.
I would also try calling TEAC/Tascam in whatever county you are residing in,..to see if they still have parts available.

Thank you very much for your answer. Sorry I didn't answer earlier, I had completely forgotten about posting this.

I did manage to fix it in the end. I just had to get a couple of pulsator switches to replace the broken ones and now the Tascam works great!
