No....that's what happens when you spend about 30 hours recording and mixing. Ear and brain fatigue.

You guys are absolutely right. I listened again today. It sounds awful. I can hear distortion and ass all over it. Honest..it sounded marvelous...but I had a major case of dead ears.

I also spent a good chunk of today A/Bing all four masters against "That Thing You Do" sound track...real close to what I was aiming for. No contest. So I tried two more masters after thinning and brightening the vox, spread the kit...and panned everything a bit more outside, and putting the slap back into the snare and kick. But I discovered a real bug in the construction...no matter how good the sound: that 'mono' thing...the vox, kit and bass, which are the only feature during whole chunks of verses, are all near center. The L&R instruments kick in later...and then, not enough.

So I'm gonna re-write the guitars to function through the whole tune, re-sing it, an try recording those tracks in a brighter, more ambient space.

I major embarassed m'self. And I apologize about any 'tone' you perceived in my words...none intended. I thought I'd stumbled onto something really great.

D'OH!

ps...Greg My environment is pretty good. Worked on it for a long time to improve the room with bass traps and a lot of the other recommendations in that article available here. Pro CD's sound great. No hot spots in the command chair. Then I spent, and still spend, a lot of time referencing real CD's...like today. Gimme another year. And some sleep. Arf.

Hmmmm

I'm not sure what all the conflict and stress was about but i can only comment on the song i hear:

I have a difficult time lying sometimes and i don't care what people think of me generally, when i hear this song the first thing i thought of was radio.

this song is really perfect for radio i feel it is very catchy there are no real obvious sonic problems i hear, as i tend to think that if the song was "wider" it would not "Drive" the dynamics as much.

I mean put any song against Brendan o'briens WMA by Pearl Jam and it will sound "mono" but the horses for courses.

i think this horse is on the right course and it sounds perfect for radio, good work probably time to walk away from this one and let it be a song.

other opinions I’ve heard when playing it here: "Catchy".

also

nice visuals on the lyrics, it's definitly radio material.

I downloaded all these different songs and listen to this one but couldn't find who put it up because the name of the thread was not the name of the song.

and again my stoned tired looking friend just said it was "real catchy".

If

If i was more stoned i'd be dancing to this, whatever you do to it from here just don't touch that fucking bass it's the driver, maybe the kik could punch just a little little bit more but this is all minor tiny ajustments VOx and Bass, it's all there. nice work i'd also punch you in the face in a freindly way aswell.
