Bringing out Heavy Metal Guitars in the Mix

I like the sound of the guitars in the 2nd version. Nice tone.
I like the low end warmth you have in the drums, obvisouly you would be low cutting and sopping a littel low mids at Mix down.
Drums need to come out more, they do sound pretty darn thin and fake. Sounds like you have cut all the low end from the drums or maybe you have bad samples?

Thanks man, I'm trying to get a thicker drum sound out, particularly a thicker snare and more real overheads.

I havent really mixed a lot before... so im doing my bit of research on mixing heavy metal guitars :)
 
i like the guitar sounds. The drums are what are loosing it for me. Reminds me of old death metal from a long 80's, thin and lifeless.

What drum plug in are you using?

I would listen to Testament "Formation of Damnation" as Paul Bostaph's drums really work on the straight double bass parts as well as the more open stuff.

I would find something you like and experiment getting close to it.
