I'm shopping around for a new sound card for multi tracking..I'm thinking about isismax from guillemot...8 inputs/ 4 outs..
does anyone know about this card? seems pretty cheap...
also..are mic pre-amps or a powered mixer required for these or all types of soundcards to get a decent sound?
thanx

I am in the same boat as you, I looked over the ISIS because it didn't seem to have as as much specwise as othercards for the same price. As in db ratings and so forth. I am seriously considering the M-Audio Delta 44. It seems to be a killer card. I am also considering the Echo Darla 24. The Delta has 4 ins and 4 outs. The Darla has 2 ins and 8 outs. If you want some killer reviews go to pcrecording.com There is a review on the Delta66 which is the same as 44 except it has digital in/outs. There is also a review on the Darla. I think I am going to go with the Delta 44 though. I found it at zZounds.com for $259 ground shipping free, and no tax.

hmmm delta or darla huh??
but the 8 inputs sounds soooo tasty!!!

Gadgetlabs Wave/824 - 8 ins, 8 outs! High quality 24-bit, 48 kHz card.

And yes, you'll need either preamps or a mixer to get mic level signals up to line level, which is what soundcards require.
