Hi,

Just want to say what a great site!! I can't wait to start asking questions. Gear includes, Radio Shack DCC deck, Radio Shack mixer, Panasonic HiFi vcr, AKG D190E mics, very cheap G.E. one way speakers on the floor tilted up (I love these speakers,), Altec Lansing Multi Media sub woofer (also small but very nice), Radio Shack 100 watt amp (giant green VU meters help light the room), Sony MDR-V200 phones. I bounce from DCC to VCR. Great to be aboard!

Hi! I'm new too. I joined the site yesterday. I agree, what an awesome site/bbs. I was a rec engineer for a remixing studio in NYC, but I left the scene 7 years ago. I just acquired new gear to get back to the reason I started recording, which was to write music (I got distracted from that goal when I landed a long-term engineer gig). The shtuff I got includes a pair of Tannoy NFM 8's, Ashly MOSFET amp, AKG (insert model number here) dynamic mic, Yamaha SY77 synth, E-mu 6400 sampler, ART effects box, a teeny Roland D-something drum machine (it's really old, I have to dust it off, I don't even remember what its features are), and a spankin' new Alesis Studio 24 recording console. (What? No tape/dat/ADAT/HD recorder? Not yet. I need to re-learn my old gear and learn the new stuff. I'll get recording gear later.) So anyway, I'm really excited to be getting back on my musical feet, and I'm also really glad to have found this web site. Cheers to everyone and Happy New Year!!
 
Is there anybody here who didn't use quite a bit of Radio Shack stuff to begin with. My first set up was two cassette decks, a Radio Shack DJ mixer, a Radio Shack DJ reverb unit and the infamous, yet faithful headphones microphone (plugging the headphone into the mic input). Wow, I still listen to those tapes I made with that setup just to get a good laugh and great memories. It is amazing what you can get today for under $500--some great 4-tracks out there. My first 4-track was a monster of a board--6 inputs with VU meters on each channel. It cost $1300 (man, I could get a VS880EX for that kind of money, today)!! And my effects unit was still the Radio Shack Reverb--a good digital reverb box for guitar cost almost $500 back then (mid '80s). So keep on rockin with that Radio Shack stuff, it may not be the greatest, but it is certainly good for get that recording fever going.
