Brand New Emotion - feedback please

The production is pretty good, in the sense that I can hear every instrument. But the playing could be a LOT better. This style of music thrives on everything being in that rhythmic "pocket". The guitars are all over the place, and the whole song lacks any sense of building or releasing energy. It kinda just meanders on and on.

The vocals aren't bad, they are in key for the most part, but they suffer from the same problem as the rest of the song, and this is that they don't really exhibit any variation in energy or style.
 
i would say the snare is masking the guitars alot but it is a nice snare sound ;)
 
I really like the vocals, but I feel that the voice gets no support from the other instruments...
 
Brand New Emotion

Mike: lead guitar w/ Strat, Bass w/ Rickenbacker, Vocal w/Rode NT2A, Gerry: rythm guitar w/Strat, all through Edirol UA101. One of my first attempts at lead guitar, Gerry let me try on this song. The dynamics do need something so we will rethink it a bit, maybe try altering for variation. Thanks for your comments.
 
hhmmm.
drums too far away, too much reverb.
guitar sound ok, but not entirely in sync with everybody.
vocals ok too much verb and too far away from mic it seems.
Where is the bottom end? Might have been closer to the mark if it had some bumpin bass in it.

I like the feel of the song and the vibe of the vocals and two guitars. However, it sounds like the performance and production were a little rushed. I'm not much of a singer nor producer, but IMO, your vocals could benefit from some minor pitch correction and layering. I think the guitars need to be a little tighter too.
 
That's quite open sounding and spacious...which I think is good. You aim for that kind of sound or is that just how it is?

Sounds also to be awkward in the vocal. It's not really a good aspect of the song.
 
Always enjoy your songs. However, there's a few things that stand out on this one.... The rhythm guitar needs to come down a lot, it steps over everything else. I also think it should be less busy, but maybe once you lower the level, it won't come across that way.

Bass could come up a little more.

There is not much difference between the verses and choruses melodically. I had to read along to follow the song and know where I was. Keep things simple in the verses and add more instrumentation and change modes in the choruses. Go up a 5th or something. Draw attention to the hook!!!

lyrics and song structure work for me.
