BR864, how are the mic levels?

I am getting jazzed by the rave posts by BR864 users, so much so that I am considering buying it as opposed to a computer-based recording-studio. The one draw-back seems to be the lack of phantom power. I seems to kill the "portable" and "affordable" advantages if I have to get a mixer to go along with it. Is anyone recording vocals/acoustic guitars using dynamic mics and an 864? How are the results? What mics are you using?
