bR-8 CLIP light issues

I've been having trouble with my clip lights. they aren't warning me when my guitar is distorting. is anyone else having this problem? can I get along without the clip lights? Roland thinks so.
Please inform me what you think.
 
Clipping.....

Are you using headphones? I had the same problem but it turned out to be the headphone amp in BR-8 that was distorting, not the track itself. If you run your line outs (not the headphone outs) to another source and then use that sources headphone outs, you might see the problem disappear.

Then again, that may not be your problem. I haven't had that particular problem since I solved the headphone issue....
 
yes I'm using headphones but.....

....I'm using the right output for them. I'm at my wits end. I sent it to roland twice. first they changed the motherboard. Second time they said they changed everything inside. When I bought it new the clip light was really sensitive now it's almost none existant. I noticed the change when I updated the operating system. But if they changed the inerds I shouldn't still have this problem. Does anyone else have similar problems with there br-8?
 
Using the "right" output?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by using the "right" output. Do you mean "correct" or do you mean the "right channel"?

In any event I haven't experienced anything like what you describe. My meters have always worked correctly but as I said, I was getting distortion which I thought was being recorded but it turned out to be in the headphones only. Once I bypassed the headphone outs my problem went away.

In any event it sounds like something's wrong with that BR-8. I haven't heard of that problem before.....

well, the don't seem "overly" sensitive. Of course, that depends on how "hot" my input signal is and how I have the input levels set....

One other thing I noticed was the automatic "Effects" settings on the input. I don't like those. I almost ALWAYS bypass the effects on the input when I record. Some of those settings boost certain frequencies and gives me sounds I don't want. Sometimes the EQ settings on those effects really make my input signal "jump" up on certain notes depending on what I'm playing.

Which input are you using to record on and are you having a particular problem with certain instruments. Tell me about your setup, how you record and what you are recording......

I have a fender with seymore dunkens.(wrong spelling) two single coils and one humbucker. I'm having trouble with the clip light on vocals too. I'm using the onboard effects. Maybe I'm overreacting. but the cliplights were working when I bought it. I called roland today. they offered to replace my unit. But if this is a common issue. And it won't be a problem I don't need to. any suggestions?

At this point I'd just have it replaced. Then you could start fresh with a new unit. As I said, I haven't experienced what you are saying.

Are plugging in your guitar directly to the BR-8?

I found the on board effects to be sub-standard. They're OK for just putting down ideas but you can't beat running your guitar thru some type of modeling device like a line 6 POD or Korg AX100G and bypassing the on board effects. you'll get a much better sound without the sub-standard on board effects. My experience with those on board effects is that they are not perfect and will introduce drop outs, noises and unwanted sounds.........
