Hey just wondering, how much can a 32 mb card hold on teh be 532

also wiht the tracks, how would i be able to put like 3 tracks onto one track?
like guitar bass and box onto one track?
when i recorded on different tracks
tahnks

Well, I don't own one so I can't answer the capacity question, but As far as getting 3 tracks onto one, you'd want to use the bounce function on the unit. There's a button for it.

Without being able to give you a specific number - I can tell you that as I was getting started with the 'comped' 32 MB card, I quickly realized I needed more space! I bought a 128 MB and comfortably get between 4 or 5 - 3 to 5min. - 3 to 4 track songs...

I am only doing voice, acustic guitar, mandolin/harmonica and percussion tracks however, and record them on the normal/standard 'new-song' setting.

You can put down a single track of your project - check the space taken & remaining disk space through the 'Utilities'/'Information' function. Then, just estimate with what your remaining plan entails...

Hope this helps! - I found that with the way I like to record my projects (multiple songs in a single sitting), it was a 'load-off-my-mind' to have the additional space before dumping/burning..

heh thanks so much

but if i were to use 1 track for recording my drummer, 1 fior bassist, 1 for vocals, and 2 for my guitar playing.

How many minutes do u estimate i could get onto a 32 mb card
thank u

i know it wont be much, but i was hoping that at least one song coulold fit into it, and then when im done mixing it, i can transfer onto the comp and use if ro the for the next song on the demo

Peter,

Using the numbers above - you eat up about .7MB per recorded minuite. So I would estimate the "comfortable" record time-total you have is about 45 min.

This would allow you to record a couple (2) - 5+ minuite, 4-track songs (40 min.).

Hope this helps...

Jim

I don't think so----try 25min----ONe thing I had not anticipated with Br-532 was the memory inefficiency. On standard you might be able to get one song 5-6 min (assuming 4 tracks).

and maybe a 1 or 2 track jam as well.

Better get a smartmedia reader.

Well, gartulan -

I'm sitting here listening to the two songs I've got saved on this particular 32MB card - both over 4 min./4 track - so I guess you're right, 40 is overstated, but it approaches/surpasses 35 min.

I wonder why that is? I'm doing accustic/voice/basic percussion stuff - I wonder if different music sources - more techno/electric sound sources eat-up more memory(?)....

Interesting.

Thanks,
Jim

Now that I think about it yes!! I was converting to wav the other day and the file that had voice ended up taking a lot longer to convert over----I'll check and see if the file was bigger..

By the way--have you noticed that you record too hot? (too much input sens)
I've been having problems with it. I record but in order to hear myself well I have to turn up the input becaus the volume through my headphones just doesn't cut it. Maybe I should get some kind of headphone amp.
Have a good weekend

Does this exist?

gartulan,

I'm not sure, but I don't currently have a preamp for the mic - and hopefully with the tube purchase I'm going to make, this will help the overall sound - but I'm not sure what's going on with your input...?

Maybe by playing around with the mix faders (bringing them down below center, for example) - while boosting the master fader will 'even' things out...

What kind of headphones are you using?

Jim

Some nice monitor headphones---they cost about $90

I still have to learn to mixdown and bounce tracks. But i will get it. More practice.

Hey----do you notice that on the JC 120 effect you catch a weird kind of distortion at the end of a note. Also seems to occur with acoustic guitar sim particuarly the "bright" setting.

Effects Distortion....

gartulan,

YES! Like some kind of over-load or something - I haven't been happy with how the effects come out on a completed CD - I'm using them more as mood/melody support, with a 'cleaner' sound up-front...

I'd love to hear your thoughts on use and what your experience has been..

Jim

Well-- I bought the BR-532 on a whim. Ie...zero research. I just had some money and wanted a recording device. My computer is old and not suited for software based recording.

Personally I like the unit. the amp simulator is cool because if you live in a small space---the half-stack in the corner is just too loud!!

I have had issues with some of the clean sounds sounding cruddy. But I often run my GT-3 into the BR-532 because I am not creating two similar sound models on two units.

I think you get what you pay for. THe sound in general is pretty good, I have had issues recording bass (direct). Its portable---amp sim for small apts. Relatively easy conversion into the computer. I run it through my stereo but for TLOC do not hook it up to the phono auxillary on a stereo reciever!

Downside
Seems like the mixing functions are oversimplified. Do you need an external mixer?
Memory cards are weak!! And expensive!!
4 tracks doesn't seem to be enough--+I haven't figured out how to bounce properly.
Preset drums are cool to keep time--but in general they suck....

Basically I am a newbie at everything....but working on it...this site helps!!

similar question

If, on a 32MB card, I just hit record and recorded one track through an entire practice (translation, me and the guys I'm playing with just wanted to record a practice all the way through then burn it to CD)...about how long will we have until the disc runs out of space...

again, just one track, hitting play once, and just going through song after song without stopping.

Thanks

Hey guys! I'm waiting for a buddy of mine to return from the left coast. He's been getting me smart media cards 3.3v 128mb for $35.00 per. If I can publish a link to his source, I'll do it. BTW, if you log onto any web site Zzounds, etc., that handles BR532, it'll show you the track minutes for a 16 meg card for the different available resolutions. You can extrapolate from that to 32 megs. I researched that unit as a toy/notepad/remote unit, and wound up using Korg PXR4, which while certainly not a "real" recorder, is a constant companion that has been worth every penny I spent on it-Richie
