I called the store about the recorder today and he said that someone at the store noticed that the right reel (take up side) slows down alittle bit in play mode. Othere than that it is in real good shape.

Im not sure what that would be Belt? maybe, Motor going bad? Any ideas guys.

Herm,

I could be nothing at all except someone's inexperience there at the shop?

As a reel fills up with tape it will naturally turn slower as the tape pack gets bigger and they may not realize this.

Unless you go there and see it in person, I wouldn't jump to any particular conclusions.

The 42 is a 3 motor direct drive system. No belt at all.

Cheers! :)

There are hub-brakes,...

that must release fully when in operation. It could be that the brakes may not be fully releasing, due to a sticky rubber washer in the solenoid. That could be a problem, occasionally, as it was several years ago on my 38.

MY FIRST INCLINATION would be that the REEL TABLE is just a bit loose, that it may not hold up under the torque conditions of spinning a full reel of tape. THAT's another easy fix-item.

MAKE SURE it has the connecting cables between the record amp and transport sections.

Like my CAPS?

Heh.

wow, $143 for the 8 track tascam, good deal if it works, how nice that someone named i_love_analog won that. I remember seeing one of those up close in person and it was very cool looking, I reely wanted it. Some rich kid in college had it in his dorm room and people had to seak bye to get a glimpse of it. It was pretty.

i saw that 388 on ebay. I almost bid on it, but i ended up buying a new microphone instead for my existing 388 :)
