When I bounce tracks etc...1-4 to 5/6 , I have trouble calculating how much memory I'm gonna need to complete the transfer. As it dumps data from these tracks I sometimes run out of space and therefore can't complete the process.Anyone ever worked this out??

Hey man -

I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it seems to be about a 2-1 ratio - which makes sense since you are going from mono to stereo.

The solution? Get a 512M flash card with 96 minutes of recording time, and never worry about how much space you have left again ;)

Get WavManager (I forget where, but someone on here can tell you if you're interested). You can send one of the wavs to your computer and bounce everything else over. Then add the other wav back again. That's what I do, anyway. Sometimes it causes some stuff to get buried in the end, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do....

You can also just use the wavmanager to transfer all tracks separately into the software of your choosing (I use n-track) then mixdown to stereo wav.

i agree with Gospel, this is the best way to utilize the MR-8 without buying a larger memory card or bouncing tracks. All you need is an USB cable (or Flash card reader if you have windows 98), fostex wav manager (free at their site) and a software program to edit and mix wave files togther.

Or .. yeah, you could do what the other guys say and save yourself some dough ;)

Personally, I like the freedom of having tons of time to record, to add more tracks where and when I want them. After my first recording I was already running into major time issues, even before the stereo conversion, so I bit the bullet and got the 512 card.

I guess it depends on how many tracks you are doing per song, etc.

Will the wave manager allow you to download each track individually? What I'd really like to do is load each track to my cakewalk and mix it down there.

yes, you can d/l them one at a time and even put them in different files if you want. Lots of freedom to do what you want. I have cakewalk express and it doesn't recognize the files though. I'm sure that the full blown cakewalk probably does.
