Many thanks incidentally to the peeps on this forum for helping me decide!

First thing to say is IT ROCKS! :) It really does...but only with the bundled Cubase LE it came with. :(

This is fine, but I would really love to be able to use it as the overall soundcard for everything on my computer - Adobe Audition (1.5), iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.. Mainly for A/B-ing stuff, but also to avoid the pain of rewiring every time I just want to listen to mp3s or watch a video.

I've tried setting the output in Audition to the FW-1804 (which IS recognized), but the sound still comes out my laptop speakers.

Bizarrely, Windows Media DOES play through the 1804, but only out of the left channel! Tested the cables and everything - it seems to be squashing both L&R into L!!

I'm continuing my research, but can anyone shed any light? Are there drivers that help the 1804 recognize the other audio players? Or is that hoping for too simple a solution?

I'm use my 1804 with my Mac, so I can't specifically address your issues, except to say that you shouldn't give up trying. The 1804 should be able to be your "sound card" for everything. It is in my setup.

I worked it out! Seemed to be simply to do with having different applications open simultaneously. Even if Cubase wasn't doing anything, having it open somehow meant WMP could only play through one channel. As soon as I closed Cubase it was fine! I guess it's either system resouce issues, or just incompatibility..

I can live with that for now, although I might try some other media players like Foobar or Winamp to see if anything works better.

Still having minor latency issues with Audition. It seems I have a choice between either poor latency or decent latency and an annoying digital buzz every time I hit pause in the transport.. Any suggestions? It is an old version (1.5), which I could probably wean myself off of.

Thanks for reading.

you'll need to click a tab that says release driver in the background... and disable the on board sounds...
